Complete transformation of a former bank to create a safe, modern commercial space

Former Halifax Bank

LXM Building Services was instructed to carry out the internal strip out and roof refurbishment in Newbury of a former Halifax Bank located on Newbury’s busy high street. The project began with the removal of all internal elements, including six large cash safes, followed by the complete strip out of the old felt roofing system down to the deck. Our team installed a new warm-deck Proteus roofing system to deliver improved insulation, durability and long-term weather protection. Externally, the stone façade received DOFF steam cleaning and targeted re-pointing to restore its appearance, while rear windows and cast-iron pipework were fully redecorated to enhance overall condition and longevity.

With scaffold access in place, the building’s envelope was upgraded to ensure it is now fully weathertight and structurally prepared for future occupation. These works have transformed the old bank into a clean, secure and compliant shell ready for a new business to take advantage of its prime high-street location. This project highlights LXM Building Services’ ability to manage complex strip-outs, roofing upgrades and external refurbishments within operational town-centre environments, delivering reliable commercial improvements with efficiency and care.
